Organizational History:
Hannibal Regional Hospital is a regional community hospital that has grown in the breadth of its programs over the past 106 years, advancing its Mission of “healthier residents of our region”. In 1901 Mr. & Mrs. A.R. Levering dedicated land and donated funds for the creation of Levering Hospital to be built in Hannibal, Missouri. In 1903, the first patients were received in the 26 bed facility known as Levering Hospital. In 1915, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital was also established in Hannibal by the Sisters of St. Mary of Maryville, Missouri, originally as a 35 bed facility.
In 1987, the boards of St. Elizabeth and Levering Hospitals entered into an affiliation agreement creating the Hannibal Regional Healthcare System, consolidating acute care services and moving to a modern state-of-the art facility, Hannibal Regional Hospital, just west of Hannibal. In 1993, the Hospital opened primary care outreach clinics in its extended primary service area. In 2006, the Hannibal Children’s Center, a NAEYC accredited free standing child development facility, opened on the Hospital campus, and in 2003 the James E. Cary Cancer Center opened as the regions only cancer center. "The Center for Child Success has also opened to assist children and their families in identifying strengths and eliminating barriers to reach their maximum potential. Most recently, the Cardiovascular Institute, new Emergency Services facilities and a 60,000 square foot medical office building or Hannibal Regional Medical Group is now open and serving the residents of this region.
