Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation is proud to receive a grant from the George H. Riedel Private Foundation. The $5,000 grant will support the 16th annual
Hannibal Cannibal, a 10k run 5k run/walk held during National Tom Sawyer Days in downtown Hannibal, Missouri. The race was also awarded the grant in 2009.
The
Hannibal Cannibal has become one of the area’s most popular events, with over 1,700 people from 27 states participating in 2010. The race begins at the Tom & Huck statue in downtown Hannibal, and both runners and walkers are required to master the sharp incline at Lover's Leap, nicknamed the Cannibal for the race. The event, including a children’s fun run, is for all ages. Last year’s participants ranged from 3 months to 94 years of age.
"Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation is so appreciative of the overwhelming support we receive every year from generous donors, such as the Riedel Foundation, who give so much to the community," said Wendy Harrington, President/CEO of Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation. "We appreciate all of our supporters and look forward to a fun and successful race."
The George H. Riedel Private Foundation was established in 2000. He and his father served as Directors for F&M Bank and Trust Company for over 90 years. The purpose of the foundation is to improve the quality of life in the city of Hannibal. During Mr. Riedel’s life, he concentrated the majority of his philanthropy to either the area of services for young people, or the support and economic well-being of the Hannibal business community.
Funds raised from the Hannibal Cannibal benefit Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation’s
Rays of Hope campaign which specifically targets advanced technology that will provide greater precision in radiation therapy for patients fighting cancer.
